Breaking: Honor 9X will upgrade to Hongmeng OS (HarmonyOS)

In July 2019, Honor unveiled its first pop-up selfie camera phones – Honor 9X and 9X Pro. Both of these phones come with a versatile design, a powerful 7nm Kirin 810 processor, a full-view display, and more.

Since the standard version began its sales earlier than the 9X Pro, the Honor 9X sold over 200% more units compared to the predecessor Honor 8X in the same time timespan.

Moving on, Honor also announced that Honor 9X has completed 3 million units shipment within just 29 days of the launch. In 2020, Honor further revealed that Honor 9X shipped over 10 million models.

These figures surely show that the Honor 9X has quite a popularity among consumers but the Honor 9X users are seemingly concerned about only one thing, will they continue to receive software updates.

Honor 9X was initially launched with EMUI 9.1, then upgraded to EMUI 10.0, and then on EMUI 10.1. However, the global users didn’t even receive EMUI 10.1 so, there’s no discussion for the EMUI 11, which is really disappointing.

Yet still, Honor consumers kept asking us the same question, whether they’ll also receive the further major update but there’s something else that the company has chosen for the Honor 9X users.

According to the information coming from a well-known Weibo tipster – DigitalJun, the Honor 9X users will be upgraded to Hongmeng OS (HarmonyOS) later this year, which is big news for the consumers. Still, there’s no official confirmation on this matter available at the moment.

The tipster also suggests that there will be more devices that are a part of this upgrade process and may receive it sooner or later.

Hongmeng OS:

HonmengOS is a microkernel-based operating system that enables smart connection among different devices and provides a seamless cross-device user experience.

Last December, Huawei opened the HarmonyOS 2.0 mobile beta program for the developer and initially started to register Huawei P40, Mate 30, and MatePad Pro devices. Followed by the rollout.

Recently, Huawei has started sending the second beta of the HarmonyOS 2.0 for the eligible testers and it’s reported that more devices will be able to test this operating system once it’s launched in April 2021.
