Stephen A. Smith Blames LeBron James For Superteam Surge: “It’s All His Fault!”
Just when we thought the era of superteams was over, the Brooklyn Nets create one of their own, adding LaMarcus Aldridge and Blake Griffin to a cast that includes Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden.
And while many in the NBA are pointing the finger of blame at Kevin Durant, Stephen A. Smith says LeBron James is responsible for the surge of Superteams.
“You know who I ultimately blame for all of this? I blame LeBron James — it’s all his fault. First of all, you go to [South Beach],” Smith said. “Remember when they won the championship in Cleveland, and then the next year he came back and he added [Dwyane] Wade to the mix, and you add Deron Williams to the mix as well? You tried to do something like that in order to repeat as champions.”
Obviously, Jame siss hardly the firsts player to stack the deck in his favor. From Magic, to Bird, to Kobe — many All-Time greats had a star-studded cast, and all had plenty of support en-route to their Championship runs.
But James is kind of the one who popularized it. When he joined the Heat “Big Three” he made it cool and normal in a way that was never seen before. And now, in part because of LeBron, superteams have become all the rage.
