Steve Kerr Makes The Case For Draymond Green As A Hall Of Famer: “The Best Way To Measure Draymond Is Not With His Stats, It’s How Much He Impacts Winning.”

Draymond Green recently expressed his desire to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame once his NBA career is over, a desire that raised a couple of eyebrows around the league. Regardless of all the good things he’s done in his career, Green is still subject to criticism and that doesn’t seem to be stopping soon.

Not everybody will agree that he’s a Hall of Famer already but a lot of people will do, actually, especially his head coach Steve Kerr, who explained why Green should be considered to enter the hall of the immortals after he calls it a career. They have gone through a lot of things together and nobody knows Dray better than Kerr.

“I still gotta keep building, I’m not done yet, so I got some years left to try and do some more things and hopefully add on to that resume,” Draymond Green said.

The Warriors head coach explained that Ben Wallace is a finalist of the 2021 HOF class and he wasn’t the best scorer on the 2004 Detroit Pistons that won the NBA title upsetting the all-powerful Los Angeles Lakers. He thinks that’s Draymond’s mirror and therefore, he should be inducted to the HOF in a couple of years from now.

“I think the impact [Wallace] made defensively, helping Detroit win that championship in [2004], Ben became one of the greatest defensive players the league has ever seen. That matters. That leads to wins.” the Warriors coach said, referring to 2021 Hall of Fame Finalist Ben Wallace in defending Green’s case (via Kendra Andrews of NBC Sports).

“Draymond is kind of a point forward, point center, very unique player,” Kerr added. “But I think the best way to measure Draymond is not with his stats, it’s how much he impacts winning.”

Green is just different. You won’t see him dropping any amount of points every night but the things he does for his team aren’t reflected on the stat line. The Warriors saw their level improve when he returned to action at the start of the season and things have gone better after that for the Dubs.

Yes, they’re not the powerhouse they used to be from 2015 through 2019 but as long as they have Draymond and Stephen Curry, there will be hope for them.
