The Only Way The Lakers Can Land Kyle Lowry Before The Trade Deadline

Kyle Lowry and the Los Angeles Lakers are two of the names that will be stars of the 2021 NBA trade deadline. The day has finally arrived and we can’t wait to see what is going to happen in a day that can make the season a lot better for some teams and destroy the chances of competing for others.

Curiously, Lowry and the Lakers could cross their paths today with a hypothetical move that would put the purple and gold in a very good position to compete in the West while LeBron James and Anthony Davis remain sidelined. On Wednesday, Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Lakers could be a sleeper team for Lowry, and ever since that, everybody is trying to figure out how they can pull off that move and what they should send to Tampa (the Raptors provisionary home this season) to unlock negotiations.

Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report revealed that the Lakers are hearing offers for some of their players, not only Montrezl Harrell and it seems like if they get the chance, they would part ways with two or more pieces if that means they can land Lowry.

“Of note regarding the Kyle Lowry-Lakers rumors: It seems Los Angeles became open to discussing all of Dennis Schroder, Montrezl Harrell and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope with rival teams as of Monday night, and that chatter has not since quieted among league executives.”

Michael Corvo of Clutch Points presented a couple of interesting trade ideas between the last two NBA champions that could take Lowry to Los Angeles and send a series of players plus draft picks to Toronto.

  • 1st deal: Schröder, Caldwell-Pope, Horton-Tucker, Alfonzo McKinnie, 2027 first-round pick for Lowry
  • 2nd deal: Schröder, Harrell, McKinnie, 2027 first-round pick for Lowry
  • 3rd deal: Schröder, Harrell, Horton-Tucker for Lowry and second-round pick
  • 4th deal: Schröder, Caldwell-Pope, Harrell, Horton-Tucker for Lowry, Norman Powell, and second-rounder

There are some interesting ideas there but some of them seem more likely than others. The Lakers have reportedly made it clear they don’t plan to ship Talen Horton-Tucker in any deal but as Corvo said, that could change before the trade deadline strikes.

The 4th deal seems to be the more ambitious of all but it would put the Lakers in a very good position by landing two of the most sought-after players in the past couple of weeks. Adding Powell and Lowry would take this team back to the top of the pyramid, especially when LeBron James and Anthony Davis return from their respective injuries.

We have seen some shocking moves in the past and perhaps the Lakers, trying to add Lowry, give us another one. Stay tuned, because we’re ready to have a very entertaining day.
