Jayson Tatum Says Him And Kyrie Irving Are Still Great Friends And Keep In Touch
Kyrie Irving's tenure with the Boston Celtics was tumultuous to say the least, with the point guard still being a controversial figure among Boston Celtics fans. Kyrie Irving left the Boston Celtics after 2 seasons, eventually signing with the Brooklyn Nets. Their respective teams now face off against one another in the playoffs, with the Nets up 2-0 on the Celtics.
During an interview with Rachel Nichols, Tatum was asked about his relationship with Kyrie Irving. They were former teammates and yet now they are opponents, trying to beat each other's team. Tatum commented on their relationship and stated that the two do keep in touch and that Irving is a great friend of his. (2:00)
Yeah, we still keep in touch. Great friend of mine. Not so much during the playoffs while we're playing against each other. It's a unique experience, my first time I think, playing against somebody in the playoffs that I played with... but, it's cool.
Many fans view Kyrie Irving as a controversial figure, but among NBA players, many have spoken on the quality of his character. The Boston Celtics have had lofty aspirations for these playoffs, but it's hard to see them beating the Brooklyn Nets and Kyrie Irving without Jaylen Brown. It will be fun to continue seeing Jayson Tatum face off against Kyrie Irving though, especially with the atmosphere in TD Garden.
