Shaquille O'Neal: "If I Was Playing Today, I’d Be Making Rudy Gobert Numbers."
Ever since Rudy Gobert inked his five-year, $205 million contract extension in December, Shaquille O'Neal has made it a running joke of his to poke fun at it.
Over the past few months, he has flamed Gobert countless times for having a contract O'Neal clearly feels hasn't earned.
He did it once again this week, in an appearance on "The Big Podcast."
“There’s footage of me being the black Steph Curry. I’m 1-22 from three-point line. If I was playing today, I’d be making Rudy Gobert numbers. If I was shooting 1-22 now, I’d be making $300 million.”
Shaq obviously didn't make that kind of money during his playing days, so it's easy to understand why he'd be so taken aback by Gobert having such a large deal.
And while Rudy is certainly not on the level of some other max players, his importance to the Jazz is inarguable.
As a premier rebounder and star defender, he sets the tone for the club on the interior, and may very well be what elevates them to contender status.
Nonetheless, Gobert will have the opportunity to prove all his haters wrong this postseason, as the Jazz attempt to be crowned NBA Champions.
