Damian Lillard was under fire on Saturday after the Portland Trail Blazers hired Chauncey Billups as their new head coach. This decision raised many eyebrows around the league, given rape allegation against Billups in the late 90s.

Since Dame showed his support to the Detroit Pistons legend, plenty of fans decided to go against him on social media, calling him out for backing a guy with Billups' background.

He engaged in a back and forth with fans on Twitter, defending his position and saying he never read the news about Chauncey when he was a kid.

A couple of hours after that, the point guard sent a cryptic tweet seemingly dissing somebody.

"Sometime it’s not the people who change. It’s the mask that falls off," Lillard tweeted.

It's unclear what he meant by that and who he was talking about. Still, plenty of fans were convinced he was talking about the Billups hiring controversy.

Somebody said they were sorry for the bad comments he received, but the player explained that people will go at you no matter what.

NBA fans aren't happy with certain hirings around the league. Billups and the brand new Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd have starred in controversial moments. The community isn't pleased that they're getting these opportunities if other people are as or better qualified than them.

It doesn't seem like the Mavs and Blazers are changing their decisions, just like Dame isn't changing his mind.
