LeBron James' Space Jam: A New Legacy has been widely anticipated by basketball fans worldwide. There were some high expectations for the movie, considering the iconic status of the original Space Jam with Michael Jordan. While there were certainly many who were happy with the movie, there were some critics as well.

Despite the haters of the new movie, it has been surpassing box office expectations while garnering $32 million on opening weekend, passing Marvel's Black Widow. Jeremy Fuster of The Spun has provided a summary of how well Space Jam: A New Legacy did following its release.

Warner Bros.’ “Space Jam: A New Legacy” has turned box office predictions on their head, blowing past both tracker projections and “Black Widow” to easily take the No. 1 spot at the box office with $13 million grossed from 3,965 screens on Friday and an estimated $32 million opening weekend.

Entering the weekend, “Space Jam 2” had been expected to open to $20 million, both behind “Black Widow” on the charts and behind the $27.5 million that the original “Space Jam” earned in 1996. But millennials nostalgic for “Space Jam” had something to say about that. While families played a key role with 32% of the audience in CinemaScore polls being under the age of 18, 40% were in the 18-35 demographic.

It looks as though LeBron James is enjoying the success of his new movie. In a recent Tweet, LeBron James highlighted an article about Space Jam 2, while stating "Hi Haters!" and taking a shot at the people who doubted its success.

There's no doubt that LeBron James reviving the Space Jam franchise is a good thing, and it is clear that many people were willing to go see it. The movie itself is an enjoyable, family movie, and it is a must-watch for basketball fans overall. Hopefully, the success of Space Jam 2 continues, and there is potential for the movie to bring new fans into the sport of basketball.
