Montrezl Harrell Claims That "Matchups" Were Just An Excuse To Bench Him In The Playoffs

Montrezl Harrell is a former Sixth Man of the Year award winner. During the 2019-20 season, he averaged 18.6 PPG when coming off the bench for the Los Angeles Clippers, and he was known for his energetic presence on the boards, and his ability to score quickly for the team to get an advantage.

During free agency, Montrezl Harrell ended up on the Los Angeles Lakers, where he's had to take on a much smaller role due to all the offensive talent that was already on the squad. Harrell ended up barely playing in the playoffs, averaging a paltry 9.8 MPG. Harrell is an undersized center, and it seems as though he was benched due to an unfavorable matchup against the Phoenix Suns. However, when interacting with fans on Instagram, Harrell stated his belief that "matchups" were just an excuse to bench him.

The Los Angeles Lakers added Andre Drummond after he got bought out by the Cleveland Cavaliers, which meant less playing time for Harrell, as there was an abundance of big men on the roster, with Marc Gasol also on the team. While Harrell was unhappy with his playing time this season, perhaps he'll be able to go to a destination where his talents can shine.
