NBA Rumors: Sixers Focused On Landing Damian Lillard And Less On Trading Ben Simmons Away

The Philadelphia 76ers still have big plans for this offseason. After a disappointing exit to the 2020/21 NBA season, the team is ready to make some big moves to assemble a competitive team to compete for the championship.
Daryl Morey is reportedly planning to pull off a big move, landing one of the best names in the league to create another Big 3. While the Ben Simmons' rumors keep coming, the Sixers are trying to land other stars.
According to Derek Bodner of The Athletic, the team is focused on landing Damian Lillard and less on trading Ben Simmons away.
Despite the lack of significant moves so far this summer, the sky is not falling. The Sixers’ real offseason is about to begin.
Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey has always been steadfast in his pursuit of superstars, with his team-building philosophy being the epitome of “star hunting” long before the phrase was ever translated to Bostralian. From the very start of Morey’s tenure in Philadelphia the organization was almost singularly focused on monitoring the James Harden situation in Houston, according to sources both inside and out of the organization. Since the Sixers’ season ended the team has similarly kept a watchful eye on the status of Lillard in Portland. From the Sixers’ perspective, it would be fair to say the goal is less to trade Ben Simmons and more to acquire Damian Lillard.
The Sixers are still trying to compete in the NBA after several unsuccessful seasons. Pairing Lillard with Joel Embiid would be great for the franchise. The All-Star point guard has stated he wants to win with Portland, but after watching the Trail Blazers' moves this offseason, Dame could be leaving the team sooner than later.
Several teams will try to lure him away from Moda Center, and it seems like the Sixers are the frontrunners of this race.
