Kevin Durant is widely regarded as one of the best players in basketball. As an 11x All-Star, 2x NBA Champion, and 2x Finals MVP, he certainly has the hardware to prove it.

But even with all that KD has accomplished over his illustrious career, one has to wonder if he may have taken the wrong path.

Back in 2019, after a fourth consecutive Finals appearance, the superstar forward had the choice to either re-join the Warriors or sign somewhere else, somewhere unknown.

He would end up picking the latter, leaving behind a life of luxury in Golden State to experience life with Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn.

Right away, the Nets were hailed as title contenders, and they were within a shot from a Conference Finals appearance months ago. Unfortunately, Irving is back to his usual antics, and this time it could have some pretty drastic consequences for both himself and his team.

Unwilling to get the vaccine, Irving is currently ineligible to play in home games, and has yet to make an appearance for any of the team's practices or preseason matches so far.

Needless to say, it is not an ideal situation at all and has pushed FOX Sport's Colin Cowherd into calling KD's decision to join Brooklyn a complete mistake.

"It really comes down to choices...

He wants out of the Westbrook thing and he joins Golden State. But then he makes a decision, this is a really bad choice, to leave the most selfless superstar in the game (Steph Curry), one of the smartest coaches, one of the best GMs, one o the quietest stars (Klay Thompson). He doesn't have to be physical, cause he's got Draymond Green.

And he leaves that for Kyrie. He put his arms around Kyrie after he bailed on LeBron, after he blew up the Celtics, after the flat-earth comment. Like, you knew this now. That was a bad choice. You hitched your career from Stephen Curry to Kyrie Irving. I'm not a backseat driver. I said it when it happened. It was a bad choice."

On paper, the Nets have more than enough to compete for a Championship. They're the best team in the league.

But between Kyrie's antics, the non-commitment from James Harden, and a Lakers team that could give them a run for their money, the Nets certainly have a lot of things to think about.

Meanwhile, Durant, who is caught up in it all, is just trying to play some basketball.
