There was a huge moment in the NBA on Tuesday with the Brooklyn Nets releasing a statement confirming that Kevin Durant would stay with the team. This came as a shock to a lot of people, as the superstar getting traded seemed like a foregone conclusion at one point during the offseason.

The uncertainty surrounding Durant led to a lot of free agents being unable to sign with various teams. There were several teams interested in trying to swing a trade for Durant, the Phoenix Suns, the Toronto Raptors, and the Boston Celtics to name a few. This meant that they had to keep roster flexibility which stopped a lot of deals from going through.

After the statement was released, Patrick Beverley tweeted talking about how those free agents and their families had been affected by the situation.

"Yal can sit and don’t say nothing but that ain’t cool. It’s dudes with families out here who haven’t got a job because of this KD shit. And to be on and off ain’t cool. Blessing Gang."

And true to form, Durant responded to the tweet in his usual sardonic style. KD doesn't appreciate being called out for simply trying to go about his business.

"#BlameKD"

There are many ways to look at this situation. On one hand, it is true that perhaps some players missed out on contracts because of the uncertainty surrounding Durant. On the other hand, there were issues between the Nets and the superstar that needed to be worked out.

The NBA is a small league with only a limited number of roster spots and even fewer superstars that can help a franchise win. Situations like this tend to have a ripple effect on the league, but Durant is hardly the only superstar to have submitted a trade request. How the other players in the league will about this will likely become apparent moving forward, but at least free agents will be able to sign their deals now.
