The Boston Celtics have nothing to complain about so far this season, they are the best team in the NBA so far. Despite a loss in one of their recent outings, the Celtics look like the team to beat this season after going all the way to the NBA Finals last season. But Boston's team could have looked a lot different if certain things had gone differently.

When Anthony Davis was on the New Orleans Pelicans, he was a prized commodity in the NBA. The Pelicans were not too good, unable to make it to the playoffs consistently. And it had become evident that Davis would be leaving at some point. He eventually landed on the Lakers alongside LeBron James and won a championship, but he could have been a Celtic if not for a curious occurrence.

A Pelicans Organization Member Reportedly Warned The Boston Celtics About Anthony Davis

When NBA teams make trades, they make sure to do their due diligence before acquiring a player. A superstar like Anthony Davis is often considered a no-brainer but his injury problems have haunted him a lot in his career. The Boston Celtics also were doing their diligence when they were looking to add AD when he was with the Pelicans. But something they found out from a Pelicans' executive stopped them from making it happen, as per Heavy

“I go back to one other thing I was told a few years ago when the Celtics were trying to get Anthony Davis from New Orleans,” Kaufman said. “And a guy within the Pelicans organization took me aside and said, ‘uh, if your guys trade for Anthony Davis, then Marcus Smart better not be in the deal, because you’re gonna need someone like him to yell at Anthony to keep on him’…

"The guy said he’d never seen anybody take more trips to the trainers room. So again, you know, you can disagree with what that person said, but he was a prominent person in that organization.”

This might not have been the best idea, because, despite his struggles, Davis has become an NBA champion already and has also returned to form this season. He can carry a team, especially when paired up with another star. This will go down as a what-if for the Celtics, especially if they don't win the championship.
