Zion Williamson is one of the best athletes in the NBA today. He is well-known for his slashing ability, and there's no doubt that he often leaves fans in awe with his thunderous dunks. Currently, Zion Williamson is having an elite season for the New Orleans Pelicans, averaging 24.4 PPG, 7.2 RPG, and 4.3 APG.

Recently, the New Orleans Pelicans faced off against the Phoenix Suns, with the matchup being notable because the two teams faced off in the first round of the 2022 playoffs. Zion Williamson managed to lead the team to a win, putting up 35 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists.

At the end of the game, Zion Williamson executed a 360 windmill dunk, which hyped up the Pelicans fans in attendance. However, some opposing players, such as Cam Payne, criticized the move, calling it unsportsmanlike as the game was out of reach for the Suns.

Though some members of the Phoenix Suns may have strong feelings on this issue, it seems as though center Deandre Ayton has no problems with Zion Williamson's actions. Ayton claimed that Williamson was doing it for the fans and added that he doesn't take that personally.

"It's a homecourt. He's doing it for his fans. I take none of that stuff personal, man."

It is clear that Deandre Ayton understands that actions like Zion Williamson's dunk can happen in a game with an intense atmosphere when the crowd is hyped. Williamson clearly meant no harm by that dunk, and it isn't necessarily fair to call Zion Williamson unsportsmanlike just because he was playing into the energy that the crowd brought.

Zion Williamson Could Become The Next Face Of The League

There is no question that Zion Williamson has insane potential, and if he manages to stay healthy, he could become the next dominant player in the league. In fact, his personal chef suggested that Zion Williamson will be the face of the league once LeBron James retires.

I believe Zion is going to be the face of the NBA once LeBron James retires. I believe it. I see it. Just getting him in great health. He’s in great health now. But once the season starts, he’s going to be in even better health.

Hopefully, we see Zion Williamson maximize his potential and become a Hall of Fame player in the future. He definitely has the talent to be great, and now all he needs to do is win at a high level.

As of right now, the New Orleans Pelicans are the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. It wouldn't be a surprise to see them make the Finals, but obviously, they need to keep up their performance over the rest of the season to truly be among the contenders.
