Luka Doncic's tenure in the Dallas Mavericks is apparently taking a wrong turn. The Slovenian superstar has been on a solo mission pretty much since he landed in Dallas, and the only player that could back him up left to join the New York Knicks over the 2022 NBA offseason.

This season, despite making some interesting moves, the Mavericks aren't performing well, and many think they're just winning because of the generational talent that Luka is. This has started to become a problem for the point guard and the team. In recent weeks, many have speculated about Luka being 'done' with the front office and their lack of moves.

Still, the player keeps playing at the biggest level, showing that he's committed to the squad every night. But, like every other player, Luka's patience could run out soon, leaving the Mavs in a terrible position.

Luka Doncic Wants To See Some Changes On The Dallas Mavericks Roster

According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN, Luka has urged the Mavericks to make some moves ahead of the upcoming February 9 trade deadline. This could be a huge opportunity for the team or a big miss, as Luka can't do all the job alone.

“Sources said Doncic, who hasn’t shown a desire to be involved in personnel matters in the past, has strongly indicated he wants the Mavs to upgrade before the Feb. 9 trade deadline,” MacMahon reported.

MacMahon adds that the Mavericks know how this could end if they don't grant Doncic's wishes, and could be looking for solutions to this undesired situation.

The Mavs are well aware of a modern NBA math problem: Unhappy stars who have only two guaranteed years remaining on their contracts have leverage if they're looking to leave. For reference, see Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans or James Harden and the Houston Rockets.

That doesn't necessarily mean Doncic will request a trade if the Mavs haven't put a contender-quality supporting cast in place by the summer of 2024. But the Mavs, like the Hawks with Young, surely don't want to fiddle around and find out.

In recent days, the Mavs have been linked with moves for Zach LaVine and D'Angelo Russell, but nothing has happened so far. They need to add a piece that can really take them to the next level and help Luka go all the way to the NBA championship. This could be one of the biggest stories going to the trade deadline, as things could drastically change for the Mavericks, for good or bad.
