LeBron James is one of the most legendary players in NBA history, and there is no doubt that he has dominated this past era of basketball. Even at this stage of his career with the Los Angeles Lakers, he has been dominating, and LeBron James is currently averaging 29.8 PPG, 8.4 RPG, and 7.0 APG.

Throughout his career, LeBron James has managed to break a number of records, and this year he is projected to break Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's all-time regular season scoring record.

A recent report from Steve Aschburner of NBA.com relayed some information from commissioner Adam Silver, who revealed that the league expects LeBron James to pass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in February. It was also revealed that the team would use the All-Star weekend to honor him.

Silver responded to other questions on a variety of topics, including:

Silver assured reporters the league will not whiff when LeBron James passes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA’s all-time leading points champion. The game in which it happens will get not only a national but a global TV audience with ceremonies during and after.

With a gap of 283 points and at James’ 29.8 scoring average, it is likely James (38,104) will catch and pass Abdul-Jabbar (38,387) in the first half of February. That would enable the league to use All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City as “the perfect opportunity to honor him.”

There is no doubt that LeBron James breaking the all-time record is going to be a huge occasion, and it is clear that the league is going to do everything possible to honor him. It will be interesting to see what they have planned, and perhaps we will get more information on that when James is closer to breaking the record.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Is Excited For LeBron James To Break His Scoring Record

Previously, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar expressed his excitement for LeBron James potentially breaking his record. He noted that he will be happy for James to pass him, adding that the game "will always improve" when such longstanding records are broken.

If LeBron breaks the record, and it looks like he has every reason to break it, I'll be very happy for him. The game will always improve when records like that are broken. So LeBron should enjoy his achievement. He's worked very hard to get this far... It's about passing it on to the next guy in line.

The passing of a record from one all-time great to another is always great to see. Both Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and LeBron James are generally considered to be among the top 5 players of all time, and it is clear that both had elite longevity.

As of right now though, LeBron James is likely focused on trying to make the playoffs with the Los Angeles Lakers. They are only a few games out of the 6th seed, and it'll be interesting to see if they can get back to the postseason this year.
