Ja Morant and Anthony Edwards are two of the hottest young talents in the league right now. Morant became a superstar last season and has carried on that way, while Anthony Edwards is announcing himself this season. But there have been young stars in the past who started bright and flamed out, and both Ja and Ant recently spoke about one of those players.

In the late 2000s, Brandon Roy emerged for the Portland Trail Blazers as one of the best guards in the league. He made 3 consecutive All-Star teams from 2008 to 2010, and during that time, was selected to 2 All-NBA teams as well. Roy gets his props from many players that played against him and watched him play, but Ja Morant and Anthony Edwards still seem to think he is underrated.

Question: “Who’s a player that you feel is like underrated or forgotten that you watched growing up that deserves more love today?”

Anthony Edwards: “Brandon Roy.”

Ja Morant: “I feel like, Brandon Roy.”

Anthony Edwards: “He was just cold, he was cold, man. Any shot he took he liked, he was just cold. He was one of the best to me. One of the best shooting guards for sure.”

Ja Morant: “I feel like he gets respect. But I feel like he’s not talked about as much. Everyone knows he was the goods.”

Brandon Roy's career was cruelly cut short after the deterioration in his knee cartilage forced him to retire at the age of just 28. He tried to give it another shot in the NBA, but it just didn't work. He will go down in the NBA as one of the greatest 'what ifs,' and it's good to see young stars giving him his respect.

How Good Was Brandon Roy?

As discussed before, Brandon Roy had 3 All-Star selections to go along with an All-NBA Second Team and an All-NBA Third Team selection. Injuries started taking a toll on him after the age of 27, right when he was about to explode into his prime.

But before that, Roy averaged over 21 points per game for 3 seasons and had 4.6 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game to go along with that. He led the Trail Blazers to the playoffs all 3 of those seasons too. It's safe to say if he had stayed healthy, then he might just have enjoyed a Hall Of Fame career.
