Damian Lillard's future with the Portland Trail Blazers has been in doubt ever since reports of the team shutting him down for the season did the rounds.

NBA insider Shams Charania weighed in on his future with the Blazers. Speaking on FanDuel TV, “You have to wonder if he's going to play another game for the Portland Trail Blazers," he said. "I expect there to be real conversations this off-season."

His concerning revelation comes on the back of the team's disappointing run this season. "The franchise is seriously considering taking precautions as Lillard deals with a calf injury, and the team is 3.5 games out of the Play-In Tournament race," Charania wrote.

While the Blazers did have an inconsistent run, Lillard has been in pristine form averaging 32.2 points, as well as 4.8 rebounds and 7.3 assists in 58 games. The latest update surely suggests that the guard and the franchise will have some tough conversations in the days to come.

Lillard's offensive prowess will see suitors lined up to add him to their ranks. Earlier, we had listed three possible destinations for the 32-year-old. It remains to be seen if Portland can find a way to convince their superstar to suit up for them next season.

Damian Lillard Gets Real On The Idea Of The Portland Trail Blazers Rebuilding

With the Trail Blazers all but out of playoff contention, the next topic concerning the team was a rebuild. On his part, Lillard said he had no intention of rebuilding.

Speaking to the reporters earlier, “That's not what I'm interested in," Lillard remarked. "That's what the frustrating part of it is. Talking about what's gonna happen next season. And us 'building.' That's not what I'm here to do, especially at this stage of my career.”

There's no doubt that the Blazers need some solid upgrades if they even intend t stand a chance to contend for a title next season. Lillard has been the player doing the bulk of the scoring, even though the likes of Jerami Grant, Anfernee Simons, and Jusuf Nurkic have played their parts.

The Blazers will be aware that they cannot let Lillard's prime go to waste, and the latter will be evaluating his options if he feels the front office isn't perhaps doing enough. It remains to be seen how things turn out in Portland in the summer.
