Houston Rockets Could Target James Harden, Jaylen Brown, And Khris Middleton This Summer

The Rockets could target a number of stars this offseason.

The Houston Rockets are a team that is currently in a rebuilding process, with a solid young core on the roster that features intriguing prospects such as Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun.

Though they do have a group of solid young players, it seems as though the Houston Rockets are prioritizing win-now moves when it comes to this offseason. In fact, a recent report from Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports revealed that the team has interest in James Harden, Khris Middleton, and Jaylen Brown.

"Houston’s long-rumored potential reunion with Harden, the 76ers guard who holds a player option for 2023-24, in addition to the Rockets’ chances at landing other primary free agents and top-billing trade targets this offseason, were repeated themes throughout Houston’s conversations with coaching candidates, sources said. Middleton has been another potential target discussed throughout the Rockets’ coaching search, sources said. Udoka spent time with Harden as an assistant during the All-Star guard’s first season in Brooklyn. And Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brown, whom rival executives are closely monitoring as he becomes extension eligible this summer, has been one of Udoka’s most public supporters after Boston suspended the coach following an improper relationship with a Celtics staffer."

There is no doubt that adding any of these players would immediately help the Houston Rockets become a more competitive team. Harden and Middleton could become free agents at the end of the season, while Brown will be on the last year of his deal going into next season. Notably, some reporting on Middleton suggested that his future with the Bucks is unclear.

Nick Wright Believes The Rockets Should Target Dillon Brooks

Though the three players listed could be the best high-profile options for the Houston Rockets, there could be some other players that the team could add to help them win. In fact previously, Nick Wright suggested that Dillon Brooks could be a good "culture setter" for the team next season.

"I hope Dillon Brooks enjoys his last couple of games as a Grizzly," Wright said. "They're not going great, maybe he'll have a good one. He will be a good culture setter for Ime Udoka and the Houston Rockets next year, I'll call that shot right now. I think that's going to happen. He's a free agent, and they have cap space, they need a vet, they need defensive minds.

It will be interesting to see what the Houston Rockets will do this offseason. This is clearly going to be a huge summer franchise, and perhaps we could see a new powerhouse in the Western Conference sooner rather than later.
