Bruce Brown Declines $6.8 Million Player Option With Denver Nuggets

Bruce Brown has made a decision on his future, deciding to opt out of his player option for the 2023-24 NBA season. The Denver Nuggets benefited from having Brown on the roster this past season, winning the 2023 NBA championship in a big way.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the player is declining his $6.8 million player option for the next season.

"Denver Nuggets G/F Bruce Brown Jr. is declining his $6.8 million player option for the 2023-24 season and will become a free agent, sources tell. Brown, a key member of the Nuggets title, faces decision of Denver return in free agency versus deal elsewhere."

Now, the player is a free agent, but that doesn't necessarily mean the Nuggets are in danger of losing him. Brown wants to stay in Denver and the team wants to keep him beyond this season, with Michael Malone sharing this sentiment during the championship parade.

During the 2023 NBA playoffs, he showed up for his team and left a big impression on everybody. Things got more interesting in the Finals, where he stepped up and posted big numbers against the Miami Heat.

In five games, Brown averaged 11.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.0 assist, including 21 points in Game 4, where the Nuggets took a 3-1 lead against the Heat.

Bruce Brown Made It Clear He Wants To Stay With The Nuggets

Brown knows he's very appreciated in Denver and he feels the same about the team. So much so that he made it clear he wants to stay with the Nuggets for at least one more season.

According to Mike Singer of the Denver Post, the Nuggets will offer him a $7.8 million new deal.

Kevin O'Connor of the Ringer reports that Brown could be eligible to sign a $55 million in four years. He could get $12.6 million over five years, which could give the Nuggets the chance to retain him for many years.

The Nuggets are ready to keep as many players from their core as possible, and Brown is a very good option for them. Things appear to be on track for them, but free agency will tell how this situation unfolds.
