Houston Rockets To Pursue Kyrie Irving If They Fail To Land James Harden
The Houston Rockets could make a shocking run for Kyrie Irving's services should they miss out on the chance to land James Harden this offseason.
The Beard was said to be their No. 1 target this summer, but the team could take a different route if Harden does the same. The Texan team has reportedly identified an alternative in Kyrie Irving, whose future is up in the air.
"I have also heard that the Rockets, in the event that they are unable to lure Harden away from Philadelphia and back to Houston, plan to weigh a run at Dallas' Kyrie Irving," NBA insider Marc Stein wrote.
The Dallas Mavericks remain the favorites to acquire Irving, but they could face competition from the Rockets, who have cap space to lure Irving or any other star to Houston.
“The Mavericks remain the league's only known team with definitive interest in signing the mercurial Irving next month, but league sources say that the Rockets have been increasingly cited as a team that could (stress: could) join the bidding if Harden elects to stay with the 76ers,” Stein added.
This saga hasn't even started and it's getting more interesting by the day. Irving has been mentioned in a series of rumors recently, including a report claiming that he reached out to LeBron James to try to team up in Dallas.
This would be a shocking move from LeBron, but it's unlikely he makes it, as his entire life is in Los Angeles right now. Irving has been mentioned as a potential target for other teams, including the Phoenix Suns.
In 60 games between the Brooklyn Nets and Dallas Mavericks, Irving averaged 27.1 points, 5.5 assists, and 5.1 rebounds. Kyrie could demand a four-year, $220.6 million deal in free agency and can re-sign with the Mavs in a deal up to $272 million over five years.
The Rockets were linked with Jaylen Brown and Khris Middleton besides Harden, and now they add Irving to the mix. This can be an entertaining offseason for them, as they try to start fresh with Ime Udoka as their head coach.
Kyrie Irving Spotted Wearing Anta Shoes At Basketball Camp
Irving isn't only a free agent in the NBA, but he's still looking for a new shoe deal after his fallout with Nike. The point guard is a sought-after agent and brands like Puma, Adidas, and even Chinese Anta are behind his services.
He was recently spotted wearing the latter at his basketball camp, probably hinting that his decision has been made. Still, we have to wait until Kyrie himself makes it official, as he revealed a couple of weeks ago.
