NBA Rumors: Dallas Mavericks Would Prefer Trading Luka Doncic To Knicks

The Dallas Mavericks have nothing to worry about Luka Doncic right now, as the player has pleaded his loyalty to the Texan team. However, many superstars have said the same before asking for a trade.

Doncic remains hopeful that his team can make the right moves to help him compete for a championship next season, but the Mavericks know everything could change fast. One NBA executive claims that in the case that they want to move Doncic, the New York Knicks would be the first team to get this offer.

“I am sure the Knicks would be the first team the Mavs would call if they wanted to move Luka. Maybe OKC first because of the picks but the Knicks would be right there. They would have to send out a huge, huge number of picks for him,” the executive told Heavy's Sean Deveney.

The Knicks and Mavericks haven't had the best relationship since the New Yorkers lured Jalen Brunson away from Dallas, which caused Mark Cuban to talk about Brunson's father and add more things to a discussion that appeared to be dead.

Still, this is a business and the issues of the past are quickly forgotten, which could be the case if Luka decides to part ways with the Mavericks. The Slovenian guard is a generational talent, and the Mavs know he wants to win. But if they can't give him the help he needs, Luka will probably try to find a new team.

Mavericks Are Still Trying To Build Around Luka

Meanwhile, the team's front office keeps working to add the right players to maximize Luka's chances to compete. They're still keen to keep Kyrie Irving on the roster and are working to build around Doncic.

Contradicting reports say that Irving had a handshake agreement with Dallas before free agency, and now the rumors are different. The Los Angeles Lakers are still mentioned as a potential landing spot for Irving, but the Mavericks appear to be favorites in this race.

If they run it back with these two and improve their defense, Dallas can make a lot of noise in the league next season.
