The Celtics Aren't Done Making Moves After Landing Kristaps Porzingis And Trading Marcus Smart

It appears that the Boston Celtics have more moves left in the tank and the trade for Kristaps Porzingis was just the start.

According to Celtics reporter Brian Robb, "A league source tells MassLive the Celtics are far from done after trading for Kristaps Porzingis on Wednesday night. A closer look at the revamped roster and what could be on the horizon after a surprise Marcus Smart deal."

The Celtics made headlines after they traded Smart as part of a three-team deal with the Memphis Grizzlies and the Washington Wizards. The forward went to Memphis while Boston landed the 25th pick in the 2023 Draft and a Warriors' first-round pick in 2024 for their defensive presence, who will now suit up with the Grizzlies.

By Robb's account, it looks like Boston is leaving no stone unturned in revamping their roster. They made the playoffs twice in as many seasons. If one ended with them going down to the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals, the past season saw them lose to the Miami Heat in the Conference Finals.

How Does This Trade Work For The Celtics?

In an ideal scenario, the Celtics would have preferred to keep Smart over Brogdon, but they opted to bolster their center with Porzingis. He comes in with valuable defensive skills and is versatile on the scoring end.

From a contract standpoint, the move gives the Celtics a better chance at retaining their star duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. They will now be free of the mammoth financial penalty under the new CBA, as Porzingis is only under contract through the 2023-24 season.

The negative, though is losing Smart, who is a veteran presence and an absolute leader in the locker room. The new big four for the Celtics looks promising, but it remains to be seen if they can indeed get their squad to go the distance this time around.
