Philadelphia 76ers Would Not Trade Tyrese Maxey For Prime Michael Jordan Or 25-Year-Old LeBron James Says Brian Windhorst

The Philadelphia 76ers are in an awkward place after James Harden demanded a trade away from the organization. As such, they will have to rebuild their roster in some ways, but one player is seemingly not going anywhere. 

Tyrese Maxey was drafted by the Sixers and has gotten every year in his three seasons in the league so far. And according to Brian Windhorst, the team rates him so highly that they wouldn't trade him for some of the greatest NBA players of all time. 

"Prime Michael Jordan is available? Don’t call," Windhorst said on his Hoop Collective podcast. "25-year-old LeBron James is available? Lose our number. Giannis Antetokounmpo says, ‘I want to be a Sixer.’ If Tyrese Maxey is the ask, just keep walking."

While it makes a point of how valuable he is to the franchise well, it might be one of the more absurd quotes of this NBA offseason. Tyrese Maxey has shown that he could become an All-Star player, but all the players mentioned above have won MVPs, Finals MVPs, and championships. 

The Sixers would likely trade Maxey for a few of today's superstars if the offer came in. There's no way a potential Giannis Antetokounmpo deal would get held up for Maxey, and the same likely holds for Luka Doncic, Devin Booker, and Jayson Tatum, to name a few.

Prime Michael Jordan And 25-Year-Old LeBron James Were On A Different Level

Any NBA fan can tell how utterly unserious that quote is, but let's delve into the numbers. If we consider Michael Jordan's prime to be between the ages of 27 and 32, then during that time, he won four championships, four Finals MVPs, and three MVPs. He would go on to win even more. Any NBA GM would give up five Tyrese Maxeys if they could get prime Michael Jordan in return. 

The same is true of 25-year-old LeBron James. At 25, the King was averaging 29.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 8.6 rebounds per game for the Cleveland Cavaliers. From that point on, he would go on to win four MVPs, four championships, and four Finals MVPs while eventually breaking the all-time scoring record. It's more likely that Tyrese Maxey never becomes an All-Star than reaches anywhere close to those levels. It's just incredible how wild that quote from Windhorst sounds.
