Lonzo Ball Feels Bad For The Bulls GM Because He Created The Perfect Team Around Him
- Lonzo Ball last played a game in the NBA well over a year ago
- The Bulls sat atop the Eastern Conference when Ball went down
- Lonzo feels for the Bulls' front office as he thinks they built the perfect team around him
Lonzo Ball has been out of action since January 2022 due to injuries. And he feels for the front office of the Chicago Bulls. During an appearance on the From The Point podcast, Ball spoke about his disappointment over how things have panned out.
"I feel bad just for the GMs because I feel like they made the perfect team around me," Ball said. "And I felt like that was the most I've ever been involved in an organization and I finally got the perfect team that I felt could fit my game. And play my way and really just do what I wanted to do."
The Bulls were leading the Eastern Conference with a 27-14 record after his final game, and Lonzo still thinks about what might have been.
"So that injury, I'm still going through it right now," Ball continued. "That one messed me up early just because I felt like we really had a chance and never got to see what it was."
Without Ball, who had averaged 13.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.8 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game in the 2021-22 season in 35 games, the Bulls struggled.
By the time the regular season ended, they were sixth in the East with a 46-36 record. They would go on to lose in the first round of the playoffs to the Milwaukee Bucks, and one wonders how differently that season could have ended had Ball stayed healthy.
Lonzo Ball's Injury Nightmare
It has really been a nightmarish 20 months or so for Lonzo. He first had to undergo surgery for his torn meniscus, but the recovery didn't go according to plan.
He then required arthroscopic knee surgery in September 2022, but the issue was still not fixed. Lonzo then had to undergo cartilage transplant surgery in March 2023.
Ball confirmed he'll miss the entire 2023-24 season as well and we just hope he can get back by the time the 2024-25 campaign rolls around. It was reported that the Bulls privately believe Lonzo will never play again, but he seems determined to make a comeback.
