NBA Analyst Proposes A Blockbuster 'Giannis Antetokounmpo For Anthony Davis' Trade Between The Bucks And Lakers

  • Richard Sherman had a trade deal idea involving Giannis Antetokounmpo and Anthony Davis
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo's extension status with the Bucks is unclear
  • The Lakers signed Anthony Davis to a three-year. $186 million contract

Newly-minted 'Undisputed' co-host Richard Sherman had a blockbuster trade proposal for the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers involving Giannis Antetokounmpo and Anthony Davis.

Speaking on the show on Wednesday alongside Skip Bayless and Keyshawn Johnson, Sherman had a wild take where he wanted the Bucks and Lakers to explore an Antetokounmpo-Davis swap.

"We talking about Giannis, so right now I gotta keep it a buck. In Lakerland, you have to be a superstar. Like if there's a top 20 player available at any point in time in the Lakers history, they're going to be involved in it."

Sherman further added:

"What do the Lakers have that they can move? Anthony Davis just signed a contract, their numbers probably match up just right and it's the kind of thing Rob Pelinka would do. You can't do it until December because he just signed an extension but is that something that could happen?"

"Giannis to LeBron James, there's potential there. I'm not saying it could happen, I haven't heard anything, I don't know anything. But I'm just saying in Lakerland that's the kind of stuff we expect. That's the magic dust."

While the idea at best is blockbuster and improbable, it's certainly food for thought. At the time of writing, the Bucks superstar has not made any concrete moves regarding inking an extension with Milwaukee.

This has generated speculations about where he would end up next, and the Lakers courtesy of Sherman, join the likes of the Golden State Warriors and the Chicago Bulls who have been linked to Antetokounmpo.

The Los Angeles Lakers Will Not Be Trading Anthony Davis

It's a no-brainer, that the Los Angeles Lakers will never pull the trigger on Anthony Davis who is looked at as the team's cornerstone and the future. The fact that the big man signed a three-year, $186 million extension this summer shows that both parties want him in the fold for the longer run.

"Lakers star Anthony Davis has agreed on a three-year $186M max extension, tying him to franchise thru 2028 for a total of $270M-plus, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul tells ESPN. Davis lands richest annual extension in NBA history at $62M."

Now, while Davis' extensive injury history is one of the biggest concerns for the team, he has proved to be a force when he plays. This past season, in the 56 games he played for the Purple and Gold, he averaged 25.9 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 2.6 assists.

Davis averaged 26.8 points, 14.0 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks in the 2023 Western Conference Finals, being dominated by Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets in a sweep.

With James set to turn 39 this season, the Lakers, despite his high level of production will still look at Davis to shepherd the side and ease the burden on the former to have him injury-free and fresh for the 2023-24 season. After making their WCF run despite their torrid start, Davis is the star who's pegged to lead LA to the promised land.
