Hip Hop Legend Blames Larsa Pippen For Scotty Pippen Jr. Getting Cut From Lakers

Hip-hop artist Cam'ron has lambasted Larsa Pippen for being the reason the Lakers decided to waive Scotty Pippen Jr. from the roster.

(Starts at 34:39)

"It's his mother. Ain't nothing to do with Scotty. They don't need that to mess up the game. He got no time. He got waived by which team? They got no time. Jeanie Buss and them don't got time for that nonsense. It only takes one call. Michael Jordan calls Magic Johnson, Magic Johnson calls Jeanie Buss, shut it down."

The points brought up may just be an opinion, but it's fair to assume that forces like that could be at play. It's unlikely that Michael Jordan cared enough to end Scotty Pippen Jr.'s time with the Lakers by making Jeanie Buss cut him. He was talented, but it was clear that it would be hard for him to find a home at the NBA level.

Pippen Jr. averaged 21.4 points, 5.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.6 steals over 27.9 minutes per game across 19 regular-season appearances for the South Bay Lakers last season.

He played just six games for the Lakers last season, averaging 5.3 minutes per game and 2.3 points.

Larsa Pippen Isn't Happy About Michael Jordan Not Approving Of Her Relationship With His Son

It's been publicly made known through Marcus Jordan that his father, Michael Jordan, wouldn't approve of his wedding to the ex-wife of his championship teammate Scottie Pippen. Larsa confirmed to Marcus that it upset her when the news of his father's disapproval of the relationship was made public.

“You thought it was funny,” Larsa Pippen said to Marcus Jordan on their Separation Anxiety podcast. “I didn’t think it was funny. There is nothing funny about it. I kinda felt like it went everywhere and I was kind of embarrassed."

Given that Larsa claims she hasn't hung out with Michael since she started dating her son, it's not a surprise that MJ isn't pleased about his son's future wife.

"No, I haven’t hung out with his dad. I've only hung out with his mom... It's probably awkward for them, for my ex and Michael, but I get it. I’m not crazy. I understand it’s different for them."

Her understanding nature is wonderful, but it'll be interesting to see where her son's NBA career could be headed from this point on.

Scotty Pippen Jr. Has To Fight For His NBA Career

Being the son of a former star player doesn't guarantee anyone a job in the NBA. Unless you can earn a spot on merit, it's likely your career will be very short. Shareef O'Neal was cut by the Lakers last season and couldn't float onto a roster spot just because of his last name, and the same goes for Scotty Pippen Jr.

The 23-year-old 6'1" guard has a lot of offensive potential, with innovative shotmaking ability and quickness. Unfortunately, he gives up a lot on the defensive end due to his size. With his offense not being impactful enough at the NBA level, it'll be very hard for Pippen Jr. to find a roster spot this season.

He could go to the G League for another season. His success last season could provide a launching point for this year, but Pippen Jr. may be fighting a losing battle trying to make it through there. Maybe a few years of overseas experience where players of his skillset can have a lot of success will be the best path forward for him. But expect to see him in the G League next season, possibly for the South Bay Lakers.
