Charles Barkley's Hilarious Take On Dating Apps: "Look At That Ugly Girl With That Cute Dog In Picture"

Charles Barkley may be one of the best basketball players of his generation, but he's arguably the most entertaining television personality to come out of the NBA. We can hear him tell old NBA stories for hours, but Barkley can be engaging even when discussing mundane topics, as he proved recently with his opinions on dating apps on 'The Steam Room' with Ernie Johnson.

Barkley first addressed the case of false advertising on dating apps. This refers to when people use specific photos to make themselves good, whether it's controlled lighting or a picture that is a few years old. He also laid down a rule for what people should use for their profile picture.

“None of these people look like they’re supposed to look. You can’t show a picture of when you were hot in high school or college. The picture has to be within a three-month window. Don't put a picture where you used to be hot and aren't anymore.”

Getting to know someone isn't easy and it comes with conversation. However, getting people to find you interesting enough to speak with you is another challenge of it's own. Barkley feels the same way, warning people from putting generic or boring hobbies and activities on their bio.

“Stop putting boring stuff on there like, ‘I like movies.’ ‘I like to shop.' Come up with something more exciting.”

Finally, Barkley circled back to the topic of pictures when Johnson asked him if putting a puppy in a profile picture would be more exciting. He clearly wasn't a fan of using a puppy to accessorize your look, as people would never message someone hot and ask her about the puppy in her picture.

“Nobody saw a hot chick and say, ‘Hey, what about the dog?’ Nobody ever said, ‘Look at that ugly girl with that cute dog in the picture. Let me click [on] her [profile].'”

Barkley is an absolute gem when it comes to going off on really entertaining talk points that have nothing to do with basketball. While his NBA takes sometimes miss the mark, Barkley always commands attention with his unique delivery and hilarious insights.

Charles Barkley Doesn't Understand Why Bad NBA Players Are Featured More Than Good WNBA Players

Barkley has often ended up on the wrong side of public discourse about women, with his soliloquy on San Antonio women often being cited as an example to berate him. While joking in that manner can be insensitive, Barkley has always tried to further the cause of women in basketball.

He once went off on women players not getting enough public attention while on a show with Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi.

"I don't understand why these companies haven't been working with y'all for years and years," Barkley said, arguing that women athletes should get more rep. "You ladies could be on commercials everywhere. We put bad NBA players in commercials before some of y'all superstars."

Barkley is also an advocate for WNBA teams to play their players better for women's players to avoid playing in foreign leagues during the offseason.

"The WNBA is a great product but ya'll should not have to do to these crap countries to make money. These American companies should put y'all in commercials, they should partner with y'all, even if they don't put you in commercials, they should partner with y'all and go back and help improve some of these communities. So I'm asking these American companies to step up so y'all don't have to play in other countries."

Hopefully, something changes on that front eventually. For now, Barkley is trying his best to be an ally of women's basketball and is actively promoting women's players in mainstream media.
