Dwight Howard Claims His Team In The Philippines Could Beat The Detroit Pistons

Dwight Howard recently signed with the Philippines-based team, Strong Group Athletics, and he believes his current team could beat the Detroit Pistons.

"My team in the Philippines could beat the Pistons lol. Me, Andray Blatche, Andre Roberson, McKenzie. Lol, it’s over."

While you might admire the confidence, he and Strong Group would get crushed by the Pistons. We know Howard hasn't played in the NBA after the 2021-22 season, but Andray Blatche and Andre Roberson have been out for even longer.

Blatche last played in the NBA all the way back in 2014 with the Brooklyn Nets while Roberson's last NBA game was back in 2021, also with the Nets. He spent some time in the G League last season with the Oklahoma City Blue but did not make it to any NBA roster. As for McKenzie Moore, he went undrafted in 2015 and never played a game in the NBA.

While the Pistons sport a woeful 3-33 record, they would beat a group led by these four with relative ease. Detroit has given actual NBA teams a run for their money more than a few times this season, with multiple contests even going to overtime. It would have been rather foolish on Howard's part to say they could keep it close against the Pistons, let alone that they could win.

NBA Fans Roasted Dwight Howard

Unsurprisingly, Howard's post did not go down too well with NBA fans. They roasted him for saying his team could beat the Pistons.

One said Cade Cunningham would have a 60-point triple-double against Howard's team.

A fan called Howard a "sad little man".

One fan says he respected Howard before he posted this.

A fan said no NBA team is going to sign Howard and he needs to give it up now.

One said Howard's team better win the Dubai International Basketball Championship after saying all this.

Howard has only signed with the team for the tournament in Dubai, which starts on January 19 and ends on January 28. If they fail to win that after he made this claim, you better believe social media is going to come after him.

The 38-year-old is taking part in the tournament as he wants to stay in shape, and he is still hoping to get a call from an NBA team. With no opportunities coming his way in 2022, Howard played for the Taoyuan Leopards in Taiwan for one season, but he still dreams of returning to the NBA.

The Golden State Warriors had actually brought in Howard for a workout before the 2023-24 campaign but decided against signing him. It was the closest he had come to being on an NBA roster since his spell with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2021-22. Howard was still reportedly just one of the 50-odd players that the Warriors had brought in for workouts, so he wasn't actually all that close to making the team.

Dwight Howard Said He And Former NBA Veterans Can Lead The Pistons To A Win

This isn't the first time Howard has made a wild comment about the Pistons in recent times. During their historic 28-game losing streak, Howard said he and former NBA veterans could lead the Pistons to a win.

"You know who would win them some games lol …IT, John Wall, Michael Beasley, Demarcus (Cousins), Me. Bench: Do, Kemba (Walker), Lance (Stephenson), Blake (Griffin), Tacko (Fall)."

It was a group of players, who just like him, can't land a roster spot in the league at the moment. There is a good reason why teams haven't signed any of them and if this group played against any NBA team, they'd get blown out.
