Kawhi Leonard Says The Los Angeles Clippers Are A Championship Caliber Team

Kawhi Leonard is confident that his Los Angeles Clippers can compete this year. After a tumultuous 2019/20 NBA season that didn’t end the best way for the Angelenos team, the Klaw is ready to reach important stages in the Western Conference that looks more complicated now.

After winning their first game post-All-Star break, the Clippers are still 4th in the West behind the Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns, and Los Angeles Lakers, respectively. They are part of that group that appears to be the strongest squads in the West and Kawhi believes they can do a lot better than last year and win the title this campaign.

During a recent chat with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols, the player stated that until you go through that process, you don’t know if you can make it or not but he feels he can win with his current squad.

“You really never know when you’re going through that process. As a competitor, I think I could win, so my competitor nature says yeah,” Leonard said. “You truly just never know, it’s so hard to win in this basketball. You know, it could be a centimeter away, missing a shot, getting a steal, or taking a charge. You just never know, that’s why you have to prepare for those moments, hope for the best and that’s what we’re doing.”

The Clippers saw their 2020 playoff campaign ending with a loss to the Denver Nuggets, who recovered from a 3-1 deficit and beat the Clippers in the second round of the postseason. That defeat has chased them until this moment and they won’t change the perception about them until they prove they can actually win.

Kawhi and Paul George are expected to lead this team to the promised land and the competition got a lot harder this year. Not everybody is convinced they can actually do something this year and that must fuel them to do their best and prove their doubters wrong. We still have two months of the regular season and the Clips will try to finish it as well as possible to face the playoffs the best possible way. Once they are there, the competition starts again.
