‘Time To Remind Everyone Dirk Took Two Entirely Different Teams To The Finals Five Years Apart In An Era In Which Two Franchises Dominated The West With Multiple No-Brainer HoFs,’ Says NBA Fan
Comparisons are a very recurrent thing in the NBA right now. This has always been part of the competition but over the last couple of years, more and more fans have decided to compare players and teams from different eras.
The GOAT debate is a hot one around the NBA community but that’s not the only one being discussed right now. Recently, Hoop Central compared two of the best power forwards of all time, Kevin Garnett and Dirk Nowitzki, asking fans who was the better player all-time. This question received a lot of answers but one journalist made the case for the German player, explaining how he led two different teams to the biggest series of all without having the strongest squads of all.
“Time to remind everyone Dirk took two entirely different teams to the Finals five years apart (only JET was there for both) in an era in which two franchises dominated the West with multiple no-brainer HoFs.
One guy is between MJ and Wilt in points. The other Hondo and Vince Man,” Jeff Skin Wade wrote on Twitter.

This sparked a big debate with some fans making the case for KG, explaining how talented he was on the defensive end of the ball while Dirk was just great on the offense.
Right???? Cuz Dirk was know for “highlights” hahahahah…he’s the embodiment of “highlight culture”

If anyone thinks this is a legit argument, I don’t want to hear anything you have to say about basketball. I mean there is no debate @swish41 all day, every day. Frankly, this is disrespectful to Dirk.

Put on quite possibly the greatest NBA finals performance of all time when they beat Miami.

He was a fantatsic player. KG in his prime was insane. Tons of respect. He ain’t Dirk
— Jeff Skin Wade (@SkinWade) March 9, 2021
Don’t get me wrong KG was vicious but Paul Pierce was the man in Boston. KG was second chair understand? Dirk is damn near a GOD in Dallas. Dirk>KG

Dirk revolutionised the pf position and changed the game. Kg was a beast individually but dirk made the mavs contenders for over a decade

Not to mention the murders that occurred in their head-to-heads.

If you had one game to go and win. Who do you take at the peak of their powers? Gotta go with Dirk.
— Omar Niamatali (@soopnan) March 9, 2021
This isn’t even a debate. Dirk was the FAR more impactful player.

People in those comments saying KG easily is insane. Dirk was better and not relatively close in my eyes. Best playoff run maybe ever and with no other all stars.

Jeff they are both really good. I am biased because I love what dirk is outside or basketball. Humble, loyal and grateful. On the court he was a warrior. worked his ass off every off season to get better. He&Holger created that undefendable shot later in his career. Greatness !!
— Michael Richardson (@LBC3331) March 9, 2021
Dirk better than KG. But kg will get all the love. Soft ass joint big 3s just like Allen

One is one of the greatest defenders of all time and won DPOY, the other was a sieve

These debates will always bring controversy but it’s a practice that will never stop around the league. Dirk did lead two teams to the Finals during a time when the Spurs and Lakers were just great in the West. Still, he had two magical runs, facing the same franchise in the big series, losing in his first appearance in the Finals before winning one of the most memorable championships in recent history.
KG was a champion with the Boston Celtics in 2008 but he had the help of Paul Pierce and Ray Allen to reach that. He was a great player, an MVP, and a DPOY winner so he earned his stripes, too, but some people just prefer the German legend because of how great his 2011 run to the title was.
