Damian Lillard Reportedly Had "No Role" In Blazers Head Coaching Search

To say the coaching search in Portland has been a disaster might actually be an understatement. After twiddling down candidates, the Blazers reportedly chose Chauncey Billups as their next head coach, and an official announcement could come as soon as tomorrow.

Of course, a rape allegation made against Chauncey 24 years ago became a huge sticking point with the fans, who proceeded to flame Billups, flame the organization, and even flame Damian Lillard himself for apparently "supporting" the move.

Dame hasn't taken kindly to Blazers fans turning on him, and now there are rumblings he wants out. Not only did his own fans blame him for knowledge he was unaware of, but they also blamed him for something that wasn't even his decision.

According to Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes, Dame's role in the hiring process was minimal.

The coaching search was conducted by Neil Olshey, the team’s president of basketball operations. None of the candidates who were interviewed were from suggestions from Lillard, sources said.

The organization itself was responsible for the Billups hire, which only makes all of the Dame hate worse.

Had fans waited for more information on the whole ordeal, perhaps things would be turning out better.

Unfortunately, it seems that Dame has reached the end of his rope. And, all things considered, it's hard to blame him for it.
