NBA Rumors: 3 Former Kawhi Leonard Teammates That Could Help The Los Angeles Clippers

In the NBA, there are often times where former teammates reunite in free agency. Players generally keep in touch with one another throughout the season, and we've seen times where two players decide to join the same team.

Kawhi Leonard is a two-time champion and two-time Finals MVP, and he has a lot of former teammates that have loved playing with him. Perhaps some of them would like to join him on the Los Angeles Clippers, provided that he returns to the team in free agency. Evan Desai of Clipperholics listed three former teammates that could potentially aid the Clippers if they joined up with their current roster. The first name on the list is Patty Mills, who could potentially be a great backup point guard.

Point guard Patty Mills plays a position that the LA Clippers could potentially need next year.

We don’t know if we can bring Reggie Jackson back. He played so well in the postseason that he’ll almost certainly be very expensive.

If we bring back Kawhi (which I think we will), Patty Mills is a solid option to target if Jackson is out of the picture.

Mills played with Leonard for eight seasons in San Antonio, and has always been a great shooter.

The second former teammate that Desai lists is forward Danny Green, whom Kawhi Leonard played with both on the Toronto Raptors and the San Antonio Spurs. There is no doubt that Green's shooting fits in with the Clippers.

If Danny Green signs with the LA Clippers this offseason, he’s going to be in the right system for his strengths.

Like Mills, Green is always on target from three. He’s a lifetime 40.1% three-point shooter, and shot 45.5% one year.

Green can play both wing spots, and while the Clippers don’t really need a lot of help there, it’s always great to acquire depth that already has tons of chemistry with your best player. He’s won three championships in this league, and championship experience is tough to come by.

There's no doubt that the aforementioned players would be great on the Clippers. However, the best player that the article lists is Kyle Lowry, the co-star who helped Kawhi Leonard and the Toronto Raptors win the 2019 championship.

Kyle Lowry also won that chip with Leonard in Toronto, and will be a prime free agent target if Jackson can’t be brought back.

It makes a lot of sense. He’s a six-time All-Star, and a former All-NBA player who’s done big things with Leonard in the past.

Lowry dealt with some injury issues this year, but had been so consistent the past six years before this season that someone’s going to pay a lot of money for him.

That’s why Clipper fans shouldn’t get their hopes too high, but the thing is; Lowry’s injury last year could lower his price tag. Jackson’s price tag, on the other hand, is only getting higher and higher.

Kawhi Leonard has won championships with all three of those players, and they are all solid veterans who can help a contending team. If the Los Angeles Clippers were able to acquire even one of these players, it would give them a better shot at the 2022 NBA championship.
