Tim Duncan is one of the most respected superstars to have ever played the game. Duncan was a humble and coachable player, while also possessing an immense amount of talent. He was also an example of loyalty, having spent his entire career with the San Antonio Spurs. 

There is no doubt that Tim Duncan has a lasting legacy in the league, and there are plenty of people who admire the San Antonio legend and his demeanor. Without Tim Duncan, there are no championships for the Spurs.

One of the people who have massive respect for Tim Duncan is a legend from another generation, Bill Russell himself. Russell once revealed to Tim Duncan just how much he respects him. He shared a story about how Jackie Robinson's wife asked him to be a pallbearer at Jackie Robinson's funeral because he was Robinson's favorite athlete. He then also stated that he feels the exact same way about Tim Duncan. 

Do you know the name Jackie Robinson? The day after he died, his wife called me and asked me to be a pallbearer at Jackie's funeral. I said of course, but I asked why? She said you were Jackie's favorite athlete and that's the same way I feel about you. You've played hard, played smart, and won championships, and I don't think you've finished with that yet.

There is no question that this is the ultimate sign of respect from Bill Russell towards Tim Duncan. Tim Duncan was obviously Russell's favorite athlete and Russell wanting him to be one of the pallbearers at his funerals speaks volumes about how he views Duncan. 

Tim Duncan and Bill Russell are oftentimes mentioned alongside one another as some of the greatest big men to play the game. There's definitely a mutual admiration between the two, and their bond is nothing short of special.
