How JaVale McGee Convinced Chris Paul, Suns To Offer Him A Deal During A Blowout Loss
JaVale McGee entered the league with a lot of expectations on his shoulders. People expected him to become a dominant big man thanks to his length and athletic traits and how he performed in high school and college.
But as you may know by now, he struggled mightily early in his career to establish himself as an impactful player, constantly being the butt of the joke and even starring in Shaqtin-A-Fool more often than not.
Nonetheless, McGee has definitely redeemed himself over the past 5 years or so. He's become a big factor on both ends of the floor as a rim-runner and a rim-protector, playing a big part in multiple championship teams.
That's why the Phoenix Suns made a run at him as soon as free agency started, signing him to a $5.5 million deal to become their backup center behind Deandre Ayton.
And, according to Chris Paul (via Chris Haynes), McGee's hustle even when the score was pretty lopsided was more than enough to convince him and the Suns that he was the right guy for the job.
That's one of the things fans love about JaVale McGee so much. He doesn't care about being posterized, he doesn't mind if you mock him, he could care less if you feel like he's not a good player. He'll ball his heart out night in and night out.
JaVale McGee knows what it's like to be bounced around the league and not even make a roster. That's why he cherishes every opportunity as if it was his last. He'll dive for every loose ball regardless of if his team is up or down 20 points.
The Phoenix Suns were two wins away from winning their first NBA Championship, and they have now added a key reserve to try and make another run.
