Jalen Rose Believes Philadelphia 76ers Shouldn't Trade Ben Simmons Until He Plays His Value Up
Ben Simmons is one of the most talked-about names in basketball today. There are a lot of differing viewpoints on him after his most recent playoff run. Some will relentlessly praise what he brings on the defensive side of the court, while others will point to his issue with free-throw shooting and scoring issues, and suggest that the Philadelphia 76ers should trade the 3-time All-Star.
Jalen Rose has suggested that the Philadelphia 76ers should let Ben Simmons play some of the regular season with the team in order to get his value up for a potential trade. Rose's viewpoint makes sense, as Ben Simmons' trade value cratered after the Philadelphia 76ers lost to the Atlanta Hawks. (0:35)
So if you're Philly and you're trying to move him after that, you're just not gonna get the value of the player in return. He's gonna have to come to camp and play his value back up. When you do an extension with Joel Embiid, I'm pretty sure you talked to him about the future of Ben Simmons.
So, you bring him back to camp, you start the season with him, you hope that he plays remotely like he was playing last year as he became the Defensive Player of the Year candidate, as he can flirt with triple-doubles. There are so many valuable things he can bring to the table. Then, if and when that value re-elevates, that’s when you try to move him, especially for what they're gonna be asking for in return.
There is no doubt that Ben Simmons was disappointing in the postseason, but if he plays well during the regular season, there might be more franchises willing to give up large trade packages for him. We'll see what decision the 76ers make on Ben Simmons, but it is possible that we could see him don a Sixers jersey once again.
