The Los Angeles Lakers had an active day 1 of free agency, signing interesting players, including Dwight Howard and Wayne Ellington. The purple and gold are ready to make a splash this offseason, trying to win the NBA championship again.

Although they have plenty of money compromised in LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and newly-acquired point guard Russell Westbrook, the team is trying to fill the rest of the spots on the roster with veteran deals, which is working for them.

After landing several good names on Monday night, they're still trying to get some interesting players. Carmelo Anthony has been on the team's radar for some time now, and as the days go by, his chances of teaming up with long-time friend LeBron James look more likely.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers are actively trying to get a deal done with Melo, which could be done today.

"One more player who they're trying to sign and could decide as soon as today, Carmelo Anthony."

These rumors have been around for the past couple of weeks. Now that the Lakers need veterans to complete their roster, Melo's name has gotten stronger for the franchise.

He's still trying to get that ring, just like Westbrook, and joining forces with Bron could be the perfect opportunity for him to get his hands on the Larry O'Brien trophy once and for all.
