Michael Jordan's 1984 First Game-Worn Nike Air Sold For $1.5 Million

Michael Jordan's legacy has transcended the game of basketball. After 18 years since his third and final retirement from the NBA, His Airness keeps making history with all the good things he did during his active years. 

Owning Michael Jordan memorabilia is something huge for certain people. The oldest and more iconic the souvenir is, the more expensive it'll be. Recently, one special pair of shoes were sold for $1.5 million. 

The first pair of game-worn Nike Air from 1984 sold for almost $1.5 million at Sotheby's. The auction happened this Sunday, with a person offering $1.472 million to take the white and red shoes.

The 1984 Nike Air Ships are Jordan's earliest known regular season game-worn Nikes. The shoes, the first pair of sneakers to ever crack the $1 million mark at an auction, going for $1.472 million, were acquired by collector Nick Fiorella.

The signed sneakers are from Jordan's fifth NBA game in his rookie season, Sotheby's said. The red and white sneakers were designed by Bruce Kilgore.

"To present such a groundbreaking and important pair of sneakers at this special auction in Las Vegas further solidifies the strength and broad reach of the sneaker collecting community," said Brahm Wachter, head of Sotheby's streetwear and modern collectibles department. The auction house began selling sneakers only in 2019.

This price pretty much sums up how great Michael Jordan was for the game of basketball. The Chicago Bulls legend became the greatest player of all time during his impressive run in the Windy City, winning six championships in eight years. 

MJ's rookie season was promising for the team; he took them to the playoff and even though the Milwaukee Bucks eliminated them in four games (best-of-five series), Jordan planted the seed of what would come for the league. 

The legend of Jordan is enormous and when we see how much people value his contributions to the game, you know we are in front of one of the most important players of all time.
