Anthony Edwards Issues Apology To Fans In Aftermath Of Homophobic Comment: "I Was Raised Better Than That!"

On the court, there are no gripes about Anthony Edwards. Despite being young and having a lot to prove, he has earned favor with the fans and has gained the trust of the Minnesota Timberwolves. 

Unfortunately, none of it was enough to save Edwards from his latest controversy. On Instagram Sunday afternoon, he used a homophobic slur in one of his story posts, and fans were quick to call him out for it.

Edwards has gotten a pass to say he's one of the best players in the league, for saying he should have succeeded in every sport, but this time, he took things too far and fans instantly called him out for his questionable comments. After Redditor 'IHateNull' shared the video, everybody was pissed with the former Rookie of the Year candidate.

Anthony Edwards Issues Public Apology To Fans, Promises To Do Better In The Future

There was no way that Edwards wasn't going to apologize for those comments. Whether he means it or not, saying stuff like that in today's culture can easily ruin your life.  

While Edwards should be fine (this is his first scandal), he did seem genuinely sorry for his words and took it upon himself to address the whole thing on his personal Twitter account.

What I said was immature, hurtful, and disrespectful, and I’m incredibly sorry. It’s unacceptable for me or anyone to use that language in such a hurtful way, there’s no excuse for it, at all. I was raised better than that!

It's an unfortunate situation for the young stud, but it should be completely behind him by the start of the season. As a young, mature, and very capable leader, this one incident isn't going to completely erase his good standing.

Regarding what we can expect from him on the court, the Wolves are convinced that he can take them to the next level of contention.

“We think he can be a transcendent player,” Timberwolves President Tim Connelly said. “We think he can be one of the best two-way players in the league. We think he can be an all-league defender. That’s a lot to put on his shoulders, but if we didn’t think he was capable of that, we wouldn’t be challenging him.”

It is true that Edwards has all the makings of an NBA superstar. He can score, defend, and make plays for others. He's also a solid leader with a strong work ethic.

Hopefully, going forward, he is a little more careful with what he posts online and avoids any more controversies that could become a distraction.
