Gilbert Arenas made a lot of enemies when he criticized Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, claiming that the 2x NBA MVP doesn't understand the game of basketball or how to get better to have a better and longer career in the association.
Those comments stirred the pot, earning Arenas a lot of bad comments from people who mentioned similar cases to Giannis, people who recalled how impressive the Greek Freak has been so far, and how keen he is to improve his game.
Antetokounmpo is yet to address these comments, but those who appreciate him and his game have fired back at Arenas. One of the latest names to join this list is Slovenian Goran Dragic, who didn't hold back against the former Washington Wizards star and made it clear that his accolades don't make him worthy to talk about Giannis.
Goran Dragic Calls Out Gilbert Arenas For Criticizing Giannis Antetokounmpo
After Slovenia secured an easy 88-72 win over Belgium in the last-16 round of the 2022 EuroBasket, Dragic spoke his mind on this situation, taking a couple of jabs at Agent Zero for his disrespect.
Via Eurohoops:
“Giannis is the MVP. Gilbert Arenas is not. Was he ever the MVP? I don’t think so. So he can’t talk about Giannis. Giannis won the championship, won the MVP award. He has been the defensive player of the year”.
“Sometimes when they retire they just want to be relevant and sometimes you come out in the media. It is what it is. Gilbert Arenas was an unbelievable player and an unbelievable scorer, but in the end, I feel like this generation has a lot of good European players in the NBA who are MVPs, or win the championship”.
Dragic has never been shy when expressing his opinion. Earlier this offseason, he criticized his former teammates Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving for creating unnecessary drama on the Brooklyn Nets. He's always ready to discuss uncomfortable topics and this time, he didn't hesitate to defend a fellow European.
Arenas has clarified what he meant with those comments, but that hasn't stopped the retaliation that came after he said Giannis doesn't understand the game.
