Jalen Rose Reveals What Advice Isiah Thomas Gave Him About Giving Back To His Community And Hood

Jalen Rose revealed the most valuable advice he got in his career which came from Isiah Thomas.

NBA players often end up changing the lives of not only themselves but generations after them when they reach the league and receive a sizable rookie contract. While that pales in comparison to what you can make over the course of your career, just the rookie contract money is more than what many of these players would've seen prior to their NBA careers.

Jalen Rose was one of those players whose life was changed after he became an NBA player. He didn't have an easy upbringing but became a star at the University of Michigan and was drafted into the NBA with the 13th pick in 1994.  He revealed the best advice he received from an NBA coach, which came from former champion Isiah Thomas and was about giving back to the community and the hood that these players come from.

"The best piece of advice I ever got from an NBA coach was from one of the top 50 players and Bad Boy legend, Isiah Thomas. He once told me, the best way to give back to your community and give back to your hood is for them to see you being successful, not standing on the corner."

Most NBA players overcome poor upbringing in rough neighborhoods to get where they are today. It's natural for them to want to keep their heritage alive while also distancing themselves from the negative situations that come up in those neighborhoods.
