The Miami Heat are a team that has stagnated a little bit this season, and they are clearly not a top-tier team as of right now despite the presence of stars Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo on the roster. They are 18-18 right now, and it is clear that they are unlikely to be able to compete for a championship this season.

Though the Miami Heat may not be competitive now, perhaps a trade could help them be better next season. Recently, Miami Heat insider Ira Winderman suggested that the Heat should trade for LeBron James in the offseason with a Tyler Herro-centric package.

“But for all the machinations and permutations that Heat general manager Andy Elisburg fiddled with on his abacus when it came time to make a decision on a rookie-scale extension in October, Tyler Herro becomes trade eligible again in July (he’s actually trade eligible at the moment, but there are major salary-cap hurdles in place). And that makes it all the more curious, because the two-year, $97 million extension signed by LeBron also does not have him trade eligible until the offseason.

“Question: Since the end of the Big Three era has there been a Heat player who speaks more to the L.A. vibe than Tyler Herro? Follow-up: If passive-aggressive LeBron further amplifies Wednesday’s volume amid continues losing, might the Lakers have to consider their next evolution, just as they did in the post-Kobe Bryant era?

“Yes, it could take more, from salary and draft-capital standpoints.

“And, yes, there will be a full trading period ahead of the Feb. 9 NBA trading deadline for the Lakers to make things right in the moment.

“But for as energized as the East now stands, with Kevin Durant-Kyrie Irving having the Brooklyn Nets playing as the Nets many previously anticipated, there would be something to be said about [Bam] Adebayo, LeBron, Jimmy Butler from a two-way standpoint. Try beating that suffocating defense at crunch time.”

There is no doubt that trading for LeBron James would be a good move for the Miami Heat, as they would be getting a franchise legend and superstar back in the fold. It was recently noted that LeBron James is a fan of Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, and he would be a solid basketball fit with them as well.

Pat Riley Is Open To A Reunion With LeBron James

On their end, it seems as though the Miami Heat have been open to getting LeBron James back. Previously, Pat Riley stated that he was willing to put a "key under that mat" if LeBron James "ever wanted to come back".

I would leave the key under the doormat if he would call me and let me know he’s coming“I would do that, but I doubt very much…that key’s rusted now.

I wish him nothing but the best. And if he ever wanted to come back, then I’ll put a new shiny key under that mat.

There is no doubt that the Miami Heat would let LeBron James be on a more competitive team than the Los Angeles Lakers, and he could be the piece that gets them over the hump in the Eastern Conference.

Of course, if LeBron James were ever on the trade market, the Miami Heat would have some competition when trying to get him. However, it is clear that they have the ability to get him and we'll see what happens in the future.
