Jrue Holiday Says Kevin Durant's Greatness During The Bucks' 2021 Playoff Series Against The Nets 'Took Years Off His Life'

Jrue Holiday explained just how amazing Kevin Durant's 2021 playoff performance against the Milwaukee Bucks was by claiming it gave him something like PTSD.

When the Brooklyn Nets brought Kevin Durant on alongside Kyrie Irving, they likely thought that they would win a championship sooner rather than later. However, even though the Slim Reaper has played for the Nets since 2019, the furthest they have gone in the playoffs is the Eastern Conference Semifinals. 

While that is certainly underachieving, the amazing thing is that the Nets might have won the championship that season. Despite injuries to Kyrie Irving and James Harden during the series, the Nets almost beat the eventual champion Milwaukee Bucks in 7 games in the semis. And that was in large part thanks to Kevin Durant, who played some insane games and was inches away from winning the series.

Jrue Holiday Opened Up On The 'PTSD' Of Defending Kevin Durant

Kevin Durant averaged over 35 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists per game in that series, putting up a monstrous 48 points in Game 7. And while the Bucks with Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, and Jrue Holiday squeezed past the Nets and won the whole thing, Holiday still remembers how grueling that series was, and he said as much on the Woj Pod. 

“It took years off my life. It was – Every time I feel like we stepped into Barclays, it’s like PTSD. At least for me personally, every time I step in, I get this like this exciting feeling but, at the same time, a little bit of nervousness. Which, like I’m not the type to get nervous playing basketball,” Holiday replied. 

“I’ve done it my whole life. But that series took so much out of me personally. The way that KD was just willing his team and putting them on his back… like it doesn’t give me nightmares because we won, but I still see it all the time.

“Every time we look back and talk about that series, it’s like, ‘do you realize what happened? Like if KD wore a size 15 shoe, this could all be different.’ I mean, his big toe was on the line when he hit that when he hit that two-pointer. So it’s like, yeah, when you look back on it you have to appreciate it."

Even though he is currently injured, Kevin Durant is playing at an MVP level this season. And if he returns in a similar form for the Nets this season, then they might just end up going all the way this season after all. It's hard to argue that after all the stuff surrounding that franchise, KD and some of his teammates don't deserve it.
