Brooklyn Nets Won't Play Kyrie Irving Until They Trade Him

The Brooklyn Nets are planning to not let Kyrie Irving suit up until they can find a trade for him.

The way Kyrie Irving has acted with his recent trade request, it's not surprising that the Brooklyn Nets organization seems to be extremely fed up with him. The relationship was already tenuous at best following the anti-Semitism controversy,  and Joe Tsai's intense response to the whole situation. But understandably, this seems to now have been the final straw for the Nets.

The Brooklyn Nets held on to Kevin Durant in the offseason even though he demanded a trade, convinced that the situation could be figured out. And for a while it seemed like it really had, KD was having an MVP campaign and the Nets looked like a heavyweight in the Eastern Conference. However, it's unlikely they will take the same approach with Irving, they seem to be keen on moving on from him at this juncture. 

"Brooklyn Nets intend to keep Kyrie Irving sidelined until a trade is finalized ahead of the Feb. 9 deadline."

The reports all suggest that the Nets are adamant that they will find a trade for Kyrie, and after he already didn't play in their last game, it's become apparent that they don't plan on changing that anytime soon. There have already been suggestion of potential tension within the locker room, and it seems that the only option is Irving moving away from the franchise.

Adrian Wojnarowski Said Kyrie Irving Will Find It Difficult To Get Back Into The Nets' Locker Room

When he submitted the request this time, it seems Kyrie Irving caught everyone including Kevin Durant off guard. The players, who will have been hoping to ride the momentum of Durant's imminent return into a playoff run, were likely not best pleased with this latest drama. And Wojnarowski explained that Irving would find it difficult to re-enter the locker room after his latest actions. 

"I think its difficult now for Kyrie Irving to walk back in this locker room between now and trade deadline and just go back to work. I'm told that he's been good around this team lately. Everybody was optimistic... but that all changes today." 

For the Nets, if they can get a proven ball-handler and a couple of defensive players in return for Kyrie Irving, they could still make a push when Kevin Durant returns. But it would take a lot to see Kyrie Irving himself in a Nets jersey again. For all intents and purposes, he seems to have played his final game in Brooklyn.
