Ahead of the 2022-23 NBA season, the Los Angeles Lakers appointed Darvin Ham as the new head coach of the team. Considering Ham is a rookie head coach, the expectations weren't that high from him.

Still, fans expected him to lead a team featuring the trio of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook to a better seed than the 13th in the loaded Western Conference.

After the Los Angeles Lakers lost their most recent matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers, the fanbase has lost further trust in Ham's ability to coach the team. The primary reason behind that was Ham's unsatisfactory answer about the Lakers' struggle at halftime against the Trail Blazers.

Darvin Ham's Lakers Are On The Verge Of Becoming A Worse Team Than Luke Walton's Lakers

Back in the 2018-19 NBA season, the Los Angeles Lakers were going through some major changes. The franchise had already signed LeBron James in free agency and were expected to dominate by surrounding James with talented young stars.

At the time, the Lakers didn't even have Anthony Davis on the roster so LeBron was the sole superstar of the team. However, due to James suffering a major injury he missed almost the entire second half of the season.

It resulted in the Lakers finishing with a 37-45 record and it was only good enough to clinch the 10th seed in the West. At the time, a lot of the blame was put on the shoulders of Luke Walton, who was the head coach of the team.

Unsurprisingly, Walton was fired from his job and Frank Vogel replaced him. Considering Vogel helped the team in winning the 2020 NBA Championship, many truly believed that Walton was a bad coach.

Now, after seeing more than half of the 2022-23 NBA season under Darvin Ham's direction, the Lakers are struggling even more than they did under Walton a couple of years ago. If they continue playing at this level, the Purple and Gold will not only miss the postseason, but also finish with a worse record than the 2018-2019 Lakers.

The Lakers currently have a 26-32 record and with just 24 games left to be played, Ham may end up losing his job if the team fails to have a satisfactory record even with LeBron James and Anthony Davis still on the roster.
