Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks are dangerously close to missing the play-in tournament. They recently lost against the Charlotte Hornets, and Luka Doncic opened up after the game, saying that he hasn't been having fun lately. But his coach Jason Kidd thinks that the superstar will get back to his best soon.

Jason Kidd on Luka Doncic's frustration and lack of joy: "You have to give him credit for saying that. He’s human. He spoke his truth... As an organization, our job is to help, so we’re helping. Hopefully, you see that smile today and that swagger. I’ll bet that you see it."

That is a bold claim from Jason Kidd, considering that Luka Doncic is just returning from injury and has seemed like a shadow of himself. The Mavericks lost to the tanking Hornets, which was their third loss in a row. Luka Doncic now has Kyrie Irving as a co-star, but that hasn't seemed to change much, the duo is 3-7 when they play together.

Trade speculation around Luka Doncic has already begun, but the Mavericks have him under contract for many years to come. They will need to put a competitive team around him and hope he finds his groove once more if they are to achieve anything, though. Things look bleak for the Slovenian phenom and his team at the moment, and they need to change quickly.

The Dallas Mavericks Cannot Afford To Lose More Games

The Dallas Mavericks are currently the 11th seed, outside the play-in spots, and tied with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Considering that they have been in the playoff spots for most of the season, this recent dip has been quite worrisome. They have 8 games left, including an immediate rematch against the Charlotte Hornets, and they absolutely need to win at least 6 of their remaining games if they want to have a good chance of making the playoffs.

Luka Doncic was an MVP candidate for most of the year, but if his form doesn't improve soon, he could even miss out on making the All-NBA First Team. His numbers haven't been bad in the game since his return, he's scored 30 points in both games, but that has not translated to wins. The energy around the team needs to improve quickly, and it all starts with Luka Doncic.
