Luka Doncic was slapped with a $35,000 fine for his "money gesture" to the referees for their no-call during the Dallas Mavericks clash against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday.

The Athletic's Shams Charania broke the news on Twitter. "The NBA has fined Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic $35,000 for making a money gesture toward referees on Wednesday night," the insider wrote.

The decision was taken soon after his gesture in the final stages of the game. The referees' no-call on a layup attempt with 3.2 seconds remaining. The insinuation didn't go unnoticed by the league, even if it was actually noteworthy that they did make some rather puzzling decisions during the game.

The most obvious one was when Golden State received an uncontested dunk when the entirety of the Mavericks team was on the wrong end of the floor.

Needless to say, that gesture saw the NBA crack the whip, and now Doncic will have to pony up a fine, even if he does feel he was right in expressing his frustration.

Will The Dallas Mavericks Make The Playoffs?

The answer to the above question depends on how many wins the Mavericks can notch up from their remaining games.

The loss against the Warriors put them at 36-37, and now they face the situation of winning as many games as they can to separate themselves from the middle of a crowded Western Conference.

The arrival of Kyrie Irving was supposed to make Dallas a bona fide contender, but the team has been on a rather wobbly run since. The recent injuries to both Irving and Doncic haven't helped their case either as they prepare to make a deeper zip in the postseason.

The Mavericks face the likes of the Philadelphia 76ers and the Miami Heat in their next slate of games, which poses a sterner test as they look to book a playoff berth. Only time will tell if they can indeed go the distance.
