Dillon Brooks Desperately Wanted To Be The ‘Bad Guy’ And Now It Has Backfired: "Don’t Let Your Mouth Write A Check Your A** Can’t Cash."
Ashley Nicole Moss destroys Dillon Brooks for crying about being portrayed as the villain by the media.
Over the last few months, Dillon Brooks has embraced the role of a villain in the NBA. Keeping that in mind, Brooks overstepped the line when he got into an interaction with LeBron James.
Since insulting James after Game 2, Brooks' confidence is shaken, and he is playing like a shell of himself. According to Ashley Nicole Moss, Brooks brought this treatment onto himself and deserved no sympathy.
"Dillon Brooks is the epitome of 'don't let your mouth write a check your a** can't cash,'" Nicole Moss said in a recent episode of the 'I Am Athlete' podcast. "That's the epitome of what he is. ... Dillon Brooks wanted to be this guy. He wanted to be the villain. He wanted to be the guy who throws jabs at everybody and riles people up. From LeBron to Carmelo to this team to that team. He wanted to be this guy.
"So, now you're this guy, and now you're crying about being this guy, and now you wanna go ahead and make it seem like the media made you this guy. ... The worst kind of villain is the villain who's a self-appointed villain. If you look at some of the biggest villains in the history of sports, they were deemed villains by the general public or by their peers."
Nicole Moss then decided to prove her point by explaining how Kevin Durant and Draymond Green became villains of the NBA.
"Kevin Durant was made a villain by the media," she added. "He didn't just wake up one day and say, 'You know what? I'm gonna start throwing jabs and darts at people, and I'm gonna go ahead and be this bad boy persona and this villain person.' Draymond Green's no different. This is who they are, and they own it, and they live in it, and they play through it. If you wanna be that guy, then be that guy, but don't be that guy when it's convenient and then cry about it when it backfires on you.
"You took a shot at LeBron James, which is, what's the saying in the wire, 'If you aim for the King, you better now miss?' And you missed Dillon. You took a shot at the wrong guy, he called your bluff, you look stupid, and now you wanna boohoo and cry and hide in the corner. Tail between your legs and start copping. Please, it doesn't work like this. That's what you signed up for. This is what you wanted. You got what you wanted. Stand in it. I don't have any sympathy for him. Sorry."
Nicole Moss went on a lengthy rant. To summarize, she believes Dillon Brooks has no one to blame for the treatment he is receiving right now other than himself.
He has been struggling to play basketball and is even expected to be cut off from the team if the Memphis Grizzlies end up losing the first-round series vs. the Los Angeles Lakers.
Dillon Brooks Blamed The Media For Being Portrayed As The "Villain"
During Game 3 of the series, Dillon Brooks was ejected for a flagrant 2 foul on LeBron James. It was perceived that Brooks intentionally hit James in the groin area.
Speaking of his ejection, Brooks unveiled that the media portraying him as the "villain" influenced the decision of the referees.
"The media making me a villain, the fans making me a villain, that just creates another persona on me."
As Ashley Nicole Moss explained, Brooks brought this treatment upon himself. Now, he is seemingly backing off from truly becoming a villain in the NBA.
Since his infamous comments about James, the Lakers have won back-to-back games in the series. Thus, taking a 3-1 lead and being closer than ever to advancing to the Western Conference Semifinals.
Interestingly, Brooks denied talking to reporters after both losses. Is Brooks finally realizing that taking a shot at the King of the NBA was a bad idea? It seems like it.
