Bob Myers Will Step Down As Warriors GM, Says NBA Insider

Golden State Warriors GM Bob Myers has been the talking point when it comes to any news around the franchise, and it appears that he will be stepping down from his role sometime this week.

Per NBA insider Marc Stein, "It's believed that Myers doesn't want to sit down at an interview podium until his decision about staying with the Warriors or walking away from his post is both made and ready to be shared with the public."

He further added that the announcement would happen in the first half of the week. "We could have clarity as early as Tuesday or Wednesday since Myers is expected to convene soon with Bay Area reporters who regularly cover the team. My prediction as of the weekend: I think this is it. I sense Myers is poised to walk away from the lucrative offer Warriors owner Joe Lacob has put on the table.

"As we've covered in multiple recent pieces: Myers wouldn't be exiting over money. It's because he wants a break."

Earlier, it was reported that the latest contract offered to Myers would make him the highest-paid GM in the league.

“While it may not be enough to keep Bob Myers with the Golden State Warriors, multiple league sources believe that the contract offer extended to the team’s president of basketball operations would make him the highest-paid general manager in the NBA,” wrote C. J. Holmes of The San Francisco Chronicle.

Draymond Green Gets Real On Bob Myers' Potential Departure

Sharing his displeasure on Myers' imminent departure was Draymond Green. Earlier, the veteran forward expressed his frustration with the GM exiting from his role.

"That does suck, because again, Bob is one of the guys I rode in with, that I've been on this journey with for 11 years and have all been plugging away each and every year trying to deliver championships. That's what makes us go, that's what we're all in it for. The possibility that he may not be here does not sit well with me. It's frustrating.

Myers was the man responsible for acquiring Kevin Durant, landing Steve Kerr and Klay Thompson in the Warriors fold. Surely, there are more brilliant moves in his tank if he decides to extend his time, but for now, he's looking to take some time off, and that would mean all eyes will be on his successor.

The speculated replacement is Mike Dunleavy Jr., a former player, and the present assistant GM. There are no official developments yet, but it won't be long before a call is taken.
