Draft Expert Explains Why Victor Wembanyama Will Likely Stay Healthy In The NBA

The NBA Draft lottery is over and it seems like Victor Wembanyama will be joining the San Antonio Spurs to start next season. He is by far the most hyped No. 1 overall draft pick since LeBron James. 

There are some concerns about Victor Wembanyama, most notably that his large but skinny frame means he will get injured often. But speaking to Adrian Wojnarowski, expert draft analyst Jonathan Givony explained why those concerns might be overstated. 

"Well Woj, Victor was identified from a very early age as the likely No. 1 pick in the draft," Givony said on The Woj Pod. "Already when he was 15 years old, it felt like he was trending in that direction. And he's surrounding himself with a team of people that would help him accomplish that dream. 

"And part of it was having the right training staff, having the right medical people, constantly getting scans, flying out to different locations to meet specialists to make sure that he's on track. That he is going to be able to stay healthy. Hiring a very well-known trainer in France, insisting on him being hired by the Metropolitans 92 organization. He's worked with him on a daily basis. 

"So there's a plan here to be sure that he maximizes his talent and stays healthy. And it needs to be said that he has not missed a single game yet all season. In the national team, in the league, in the cups, playing the G-League Ignite. I think it says something for sure... And going to the San Antonio Spurs, they're going to have a plan at the same time to make sure he stays healthy too."

Victor Wembanyama is aware of the potential challenges he may face and has already taken measures to minimize the issue. If things go according to plan, he could become an instant superstar in the NBA.

In terms of organizations, Victor Wembanyama couldn't have hoped for a better landing spot than the San Antonio Spurs. Gregg Popovich has already flown to France to meet the young star, and the Spurs have an idea of how they will develop his incredible talent.
